American Express has announced plans to acquire Hyper, an artificial intelligence-driven expense management platform backed by Sam Altman. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026.

In a recent shareholder letter, Stephen Squeri described AI as driving a “structural shift” in how businesses operate—particularly in automating repetitive and compliance-heavy processes.
