Visa Launches AI Tools to Simplify Credit Card Disputes

Visa has announced six new artificial intelligence tools designed to improve and modernize the credit card charge dispute process. The company says these tools will reduce costs, save time, and make the dispute process easier for everyone involved, including merchants, banks, and payment processors.

Currently, many dispute systems still rely on manual processes and outdated back-office systems, which makes resolving disputes slow and complicated. Visa says its new AI tools aim to automate and streamline this process.

According to Andrew Torre, Visa’s president of value-added services, the company processed more than 106 million charge disputes in 2025, which is a 35% increase since 2019. Visa wants to reduce this growing number by solving disputes faster and preventing them before they happen.

AI Tools for Merchants

Three of the new AI tools are designed specifically for merchants. These tools will:

  • Help merchants identify potential disputes before they happen
  • Generate automated responses using AI
  • Provide detailed transaction information to explain unfamiliar charges to customers

Many disputes happen simply because customers do not recognize a charge on their credit card statement. Visa’s new system will provide more detailed purchase information so customers can understand the charge instead of filing a dispute.

AI Tools for Banks and Payment Processors

The other three tools are designed for banks and payment processors (issuers and acquirers). These tools will:

  • Use predictive AI to analyze disputes case-by-case
  • Automatically review and summarize documents
  • Provide a centralized AI platform to manage the entire dispute process

The goal is to help financial institutions move from reactive dispute handling to proactive dispute prevention.

Part of a Bigger AI Trend in Banking

Visa’s AI tools are part of a larger trend in the banking and financial industry. Major institutions like JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs are already using AI to improve efficiency and reduce hiring. Meanwhile, BNY spent $3.8 billion on technology in 2025, showing how important AI and automation are becoming in finance.

Visa also recently introduced a subscription manager that allows customers to cancel unwanted subscriptions directly, helping users avoid unnecessary charges.

Expected Benefits

Visa believes these AI tools will:

  • Reduce dispute processing time
  • Lower operational costs
  • Reduce confusion about charges
  • Improve outcomes for customers, banks, and merchants

Most of these AI tools are expected to be available later this year.

Visa believes that using AI in the dispute process will make the system faster, smarter, and easier for everyone involved.
